Job Description – Technology Coordinator
Reports to: Library Director
FLSA Status: Full-Time (37.5 hours/week), Hourly – Exempt

Job Summary:
The Technology Coordinator at McArthur Library manages and supports the library’s technology for both staff and the public. This position oversees library hardware and software systems, coordinates service with external IT vendors, provides direct technology assistance to patrons, and supports technology needs for library programs and events. A unique and essential aspect of this role is that it combines technical work and public service. This includes regular service at the Reference Desk, assisting patrons with anything from research questions and reading/movie recommendations to printing and general library support. This position requires a strong comfort level with balancing behind-the-scenes technology management and public-facing service in a busy library environment. Ideally, it also includes leading programming and outreach efforts to connect technology services with the community at large.
Primary Responsibilities:
Technology Management & Support
- Oversee the day-to-day technology needs of the library for staff and public use.
- Manage and maintain library hardware and software, including public computers, staff workstations, printers, and related systems.
- Coordinate technology maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting with IT vendors
- Assist with technology setup and support for public and private events held in the library’s meeting room spaces.
- Maintain records of technology assets, login information, and internal technology documentation.
- Track and report technology usage statistics, including Wi-Fi usage and public computer sessions, on a fiscal-year basis.
- Manage the Technology budget for the library, including purchases of software and hardware.
Patron Technology Assistance
- Schedule and provide one-on-one technology help appointments for patrons.
- Assist patrons with a variety of technology needs, including basic device use, internet navigation, email, printing, and digital resources.
- Provide technology assistance in a friendly, patient, and accessible manner.
- Staff the public Reference Desk as scheduled.
- Assist patrons with reference questions, book/movie recommendations, printing, and general library services.
- Provide excellent customer service consistent with the library’s mission and values.
Staff Support & Internal Documentation
- Create and maintain technology “how-to” guides and documentation for staff
- Help to maintain the Staff Wiki, including posting timely information about technology updates or changes that may affect library operations.
- Provide informal training and support to staff on library technology as needed.
- Assist with maintaining and updating the library’s website, particularly content related to technology and digital services.
- Assist the Library Director and Circulation Supervisor with management and statistics record-keeping of the library’s Wi-Fi hotspot devices.
- Collaborate with library staff and/or outside partners to provide technology-related programming.
Desk Coverage & Teamwork
- Provide regular coverage for the public service Reference Desk.
- Collaborate with the Adult Services Team on programming support, community engagement, and department goals.
- Participate in staff meetings, department meetings, and professional development as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong working knowledge of computer hardware, software, and common technology troubleshooting for Windows devices
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to patrons and staff with varying levels of experience and comfort levels with technology
- Excellent customer service skills and a patient, empathetic approach to patron interactions
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to establish and work with local partners to deliver services to the community at large
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Preferred
- Experience working in a library or similar public service environment
- Familiarity with library systems, public computing environments, or digital library resources
- Experience maintaining websites or working with content management systems
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in a public library environment with regular interaction with patrons and staff.
- May involve lifting and moving technology equipment (with reasonable accommodation as needed)
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
