Johnson, John Wesley (Doctor)
(1829-1907) Kidnapped at age 3 by Indians, recognized at age 26. Died at Trull Hospital in Biddeford. Obit BWJ 09/13/1907, p.1 c.5. Story of life and Indian captivity (1907) and Son’s recollections of his father (1954) in Biddeford Scrapbook #6, pp.96-99.

Jordan, Daniel Scamman
(1824-1921) Son of Ichabod and Elizabeth Nason Jordan. Born in Jordan home on Pool Road near Clifford Street, one of 12 children. Went to Lawrence, Massachusetts as a young man; died there. Obit BWJ 01/07/1921, p.8 c.6.

Jordan, Ichabod (Captain)
(1770-1865) With wife Mary Coffin had eight children. Disaster of ship “Pepperell”. Obit of son, Capt. Tristram Jordan of Saco, who washed overboard in the Atlantic: U & J 12/19/1856, p.2 c.4. Other son Capt. James Jordan died at 36 in New York; buried 07/01/1839.

Jordan, Ichabod
Wife was Elizabeth Nason. His son, Daniel Scamman Jordan, was born in their Pool Street home 07/23/1824, and died in Haverhill, Massachusetts: Obit BWJ 01/07/1921, p.8 c.6. Daniel was the last surviving member of the 12 children of Ichabod and Elizabeth Jordan. [Farmer?]

(1764-1850) Son of Judge Rishworth Jordan and father of Capt. Rishworth Jordan (1794-1889).

Jordan, Rishworth (Judge)
(1719-1808) Oldest son of Samuel Jordan and builder of house turned into Stella Maris school [now owned by the University of New England]. From Folsom’s History of Saco and Biddeford, pp.272-3. His son was Rishworth Jordan Jr., Biddeford town clerk.

(1792-1872) “The old hermit of Salmon Falls”. Born in 1792 in Hollis, son of Joseph Jordan. Life story in BWJ 02/26/1915, p.2 c.4-5.

Jordan, Rishworth (Captain)
(1794-1889) Son of Ralph Tristram Jordan, grandfather of photographer Robert H. Gay. Went to sea at age 21; first wife died in 1847, second wife died in 1882. Obit BWJ 10/18/1889, p.3 c.4. Obit says lived 63 years in same house—or from 1826 until death.

(1818-1900) Son of Ichabod Jordan of Biddeford. Ship blacksmith during heydey of Biddeford shipbuilding industry. Died of an infection after a fall, age 82. Obit BDJ 09/24/1900 & BWJ 09/28/1900, p.7 c.2.

Jordan, Rishworth, Junior
(1819-1903) Father was Rishworth Jordan Sr. (1798-1868); lifelong residents of Saco. Married Mary Elizabeth Hill of Saco about 1853. Buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco. Had been President of three banks in Biddeford & Saco. Obit and sketch of life BWJ 03/27/1903, p.8 c.4-5.

Jordan, Robert (Reverend)
Pioneered Episcopacy in Maine along with Reverend Richard Gibson. See Biddeford Scrapbook #2, p.19.

Jordan, Tristram (Colonel)
(1731-1821) Third son of Capt. Samuel Jordan. One of the first merchants of Biddeford; Massachusetts Senator in 1787. Moved to Saco in 1749, lived on estate at “Deep Brook” from 1780s forward. JOURNAL (NEWSPAPER)
Biddeford-Saco’s daily newspaper since the 1880’s, full name is the Journal Tribune (but often referred to locally as simply “The Journal”). Known originally as the Biddeford Daily Journal; a weekly version (Biddeford Weekly Journal) was published alongside until 1930. The Union & Journal, a separate weekly paper, ran prior to this iteration, from the 1860’s until the 1870’s. The library has hand indexed the paper since the 1980s, and continues to do so today – that index is now searchable online here: http://archives.mcarthurlibrary.modxcloud.com/.
